my mics not workin

so my headphones which i use to game broke, like literally in two pieces(long story) and now i need something to use as a mic in game, and decided to use my earphones, they work perfectly fine, but for some reason, the mic for the earphones just dont work on my one gaming pc, i DID put it in the mic 3.5mm jack, but it doesnt detect ANY sound AT ALL coming from it, i think it might have something to do with my drivers, so heres my mobo: MSI Z97 Gaming 3

Do you have the mic set up as the default mic in Control Panel > Sound > Recording? If it doesn't appear there then it's not installed.
