My Samsung is 7 years old. For some time now the audio is terrible. It is heavy bass with the sputter sound in the volume.

Samsung UN40D6000 has audio problems. Bass level with a sputtering sound. I have tried to reset but to no avail to make it clear again. It is the TV as my old Sony in my bedroom does not do that. What can you do to help me?

Aside from dissembling and seeing if the speakers can be replaced (which would be useless if the speaker amp was the problem) that TV does have an optical output so you can connect up a sound bar (cheap example here @ bb) along with this 4' cable you should have some much better sound.
