My Subwoofers will turn off and on

I have two JBL 10s wired to an amp and power supply in my room. the amp is pretty old but still.comes on and seems to work. that being said it could just be working enough to turn on and work the sub's slightly.

(This is the problem?)

So I turn on the sub's and everything and even with the rca cables disconnected from the amp the sub's will turn on and off and when they are on they will 'bump' and then turn off. they turn back on a few seconds later and bumps again and turns off and repeats.

Then if I plug in the cables and play music the sub's and tweeters will try to work but it keeps turning off and on just like when the cables are not plugged in.

Would this be a problem with wires or the amp?

No I know for a fact the sub's work and its not the subs themselves because I was using the not 4 hours before I plugged it into the amp and power supply. I personally think it has to be the wires connecting the sub because its almost like the subs lose power and turn on and off ect.
