My TV shows color on some channels and black & white on the others

Do you use an antenna for over the air TV or cable?
On analog TV or cable the color would fade away if the signal was weak. On digital TV or cable you just lose the channel.
Does it happen on an external source (disc player for example)? If it does and the TV is old may be time for a new one.
