Need a gaming laptop (maybe)

I'm a college student, I play a lot of PC games. I looked around a few places and couldn't find a good priced laptop for me. I even considered getting a desktop since it's cheaper and better performance. Not sure yet, maybe you guys can find a good laptop for me, thank you.

1_What is your budget? around 2000

2_What is the size of the notebook that you are considering? at least 17 inch

3_What screen resolution do you want? doesn't matter

4_Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop? doesn't matter

5_How much battery life do you need? 2 hours +

6_Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)? COD4, Crysis, Fallout 3, and upcoming games Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed 2. on at least high setting, if not highest.

7_What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo / Video editing, surfing the web, playing music, watching movies, Etc.) If it can play those games above, I'm sure it can handle the other stuff I do on my laptop.

8_How much storage (H.D.D Capacity) do you need? doesn't matter much.

9_If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post the links to them. nope

10_How long do you want to keep your laptop? 1-2 years. hoping to be able to play future games in high or at least medium setting.

11_If you would like to mention some other things about purchasing your ideal laptop, post them. none

i agree on sagernotebook..i got the sager np 5797..just at 1800-1900..it comes stock with 17 inch 1920x 1200 full HD...280M GTX...dvd-rw/cd-rw..core 2 duo p8700 at 2.53 GHZ 1066 MHZ...vista home premium 64 bit..2GB DDR3 at 1066 MHZ RAM..250 GB 5400 RPM HDD...and intel 5300 Wi-Fi

Its a good computer at stock..i got the same computer except i got the Blu-Ray player instead...320 GB HDD..4GB DDR3 1066 MHZ..and the Intel P8600 at 2.4 GHZ..17 in 1680 x 1020...the only thing i wish i could've upgraded was the screen at full HD(1920x1200) and the processor to at least the X9100 Core 2 extreme at 3.06 GHZ

The only complaint i have is the sound..its not as loud as u would expect it to be..but that can be fixed with buying sum external speakers..not too much a big deal..but blu-ray on this computer if freakin awesome..very clear..plus gameplay is awesome as well...plus it has an HDMI port..so its also your portable blu-ray player if u don't have one..but i think you'll like this computer should u choose to go with the Sager NP 5797...just throwing it out there...this laptop is BAD ASS!!!

that comes out to be around 2300, what do you guys think? should I change anything?

I think u should get the blu-ray option..make sure u get the 500 gb 7200 rpm HDD..faster hdd is better...other than that..good choice and good options..enjoy!!

Ugh, do some research apart from that website you like to pimp. The Base configuration of the Sager 5797 beats the base configuration of the M17x and they cost the same. In order to build the M17x to beat the 5797, he has to put down at least $300 for SLI GTX260's putting the system outside of his price range. On the other hand, the NP5797's base configuration only needs a few upgrades to make it a really formidable system, ie going to 4gb of RAM and getting a 7200rpm HDD. Both of thos upgrades would increase the cost to only $1900. A comparable M17x on the other hand would be $2300.

Eh, it can depend on the laptop. The M17 (the crossfire one) was built by Arima and was the same laptop that OCZ was selling. The older M 9750 was built on the Clevo D900 chasis, which is a pretty decent system. The Chassis themselves aren't bad. It's the dumb modifications that Alienware adds to give them the "Alien" look.

But i have heard lots of problems especially with M15x it seems they have fixed it in M17/M17x
