Need advice on cord cutting, options for internet service and phone service.

I am in the process of cutting the cable cord. However, I find that I will have to keep Verizon for phone and internet service. Internet alone is much cheaper than having both. What are my options for phone service and retaining current phone number? The reason I ask is I have had number for 18 years and family and friends, businesses, etc have number.

VoIP services like Vonage, Ooma etc will let you keep your old number. Make sure you register your address with 911 services once you get this up.
