Need help connecting a laptop to a TV

Hi, I'm trying to connect my Dell laptop to my TV which isn't turning out so well. I purchased an RGB to component cable in order to do this which is in the link below. Now the TV is a RCA Scenium HDTV Monitor and the laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1545. After I connected the laptop and TV together all I saw was staticy image of my desktop. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The cable you bought is really just a breakout cable and will not work unless you can get the laptop to put out component video which I doubt. You will need a real adapter such as this
