Need help. Please help.

I have a hp laptop Pavillion dv6000. The problem i am having is this. When i hit the power button the machine will start to boot up. The screen stays black but like it is on. the screen flickers while the system is booting. after about 5 secs the machine will restart itself and go through the entire process again. it will do this over and over and over. what do you guys think the problem could be?

Sounds like a shorting issue, follow these steps to troubleshoot your system:

Better if you start with the breadboarding test (described after step 23 I think) and then apply the steps.
