I want to buy a Windows laptop over the Macbook pro 15" 2015 model. I don't want to spend over $1000. I want something that I can use for my graphic designing major as well as for moderate gaming. The things I prefer are the new skylake 6700hq, gtx 960m,240gb SSD, 8-16gb ram, 15 inch screen, not too bulky, and something that's not over 6lb. I want the on screen colors to be close to the macbook pro because I'm going to be working with the adobe software and I want to make sure my prints come close to what I'm viewing on screen.I want the quality of the build to be good and durable. Can anyone suggest anything that's similar what I'm looking for? Thanks.

Normally, I would recommend the Dell XPS 15 that uses a very good quality IPS panel that is much better than the IPS in the lower end Dell Inspiron 15 7559 laptop. The Dell XPS 15 is close to the size of at 14" laptop due to it's thin bezels and is pretty light at 4lbs. I see it as a very good MacBook competitor in terms of quality and battery life (tested to have ~8 to ~9 hours battery life) and it has the GTX 960m.

Unfortunately, it is above your price range. The i5-6300HQ version costs $1,200 while the version using the i7-6700HQ starts at $1,400. But still less expensive than a 15" Macbook Pro.

The Dell Inspiron 15 7559 has a IPS panel screen like the Dell XPS 15. However, it is a lower quality IPS panel with narrower color gamut and it definitely has less than full coverage (100%) of Adobe RGB color spectrum. Thus that is one way to cut the cost of a laptop. The IPS panel used in the Dell XPS 15 is of course higher quality and that is reflected in it's price; it has at least 100% Adobe RGB and I believe somewhere in the ballpark of 191% sRGB. If the 15" MacBook Pro uses such an IPS panel then that would definitely factor into it's ~$1,900 price tag.

Is the IPS panel in the Sager laptop laptop equal to or even somewhat close to the IPS panel used in the Dell XPS 15 or 15" MacBook Pro? I suppose anything is possible, but I really doubt it unless I see a review of that specific Sager laptop.

Sometimes you get what you pay for and if you want quality, then you usually have to pay for it.
