LOL But Americans ARE self-absorbed. I am American, and I can honestly say that our society bends us toward being self centered, self important, etc. That's how society teaches kids to be these days.

everybody knows Americans aren't self absorbed, a lot of people outside the U.S. think we are morons(sorry morans), how most Americans view the political system(like some kind of a monarchy) doesn't help either.

Exactly, Americans are arrogant, self-absorbed narcissists. I am an American too, but that doesn't mean I'm ignorant to that fact. Hell, I'm probably those things too, to a certain extent.

That said, when have Americans been too self-absorbed to b**ch about something involving money or sue because of it, again? Yeah... that might be a miscalculation.

It's ok netflix. Next time just hire porn-actresses and ....wait what?!

Ah different and new article this time.

I predict netflix.ca failing in the near future.

What U.S. customers get :

Netflix.com offers 8.99/month, unlimited streams AND unlimited dvd mailings(unlimited blu-ray disc mailings for an additional 2$/month

-Plethora of titles

What Canadians get(long story short: the shaft)

Netflix.ca offers 7.99/month unlimited streams AND unlimited streams and...oh that's it.

-title selection : tumbleweeds roll across the screen when you search for titles

Netflix.ca should file for bankruptcy before they dig themselves too deep of a hole.

My point is I was almost a subscriber until I noticed the above difference. What lucky U.S. customers get seems more cost effective than going out to blockbuster to rent a single movie for a set price.

But in Canada, netflix.ca seems to be gambling on people just paying the streaming. Something that Bell, Rogers, Shaw, Telus already offer with their respective on demand channels.

If netflix.ca hopes to gain any foothold in canada they should offer a service similar to the U.S. and not give the canadians the shaft.

So was there a avalanche of angry letters from Americans about his joke? He was right on the money if you asked me. It was a pretty good joke giving the context. There is a long standing schism between USA and Canada in that the average Canadian knows a great deal about America when the average American knows very little about Canada.

ALL Americans aren't self-absorbed ... But there is a good percentage of them that need to take a step back and take a hard long look at themselves .. so the comment is pretty much on the mark. Not good for business - but pretty much on the mark..

The American People are the most philanthropic generous people in the world. There is no other people that gives as much aid to other nations, both via government assistance, and personal gifts through charitable organizations. The American people accept more legal immigrants than all other nations combined; we even go so far as to support illegal immigrants as well. (Try to get a country you are not a citizen of to educate, feed, and clothe you and see how well you do.) Mr Hastings was dead wrong, the American People are the most generous, selfless people in the world. Actions support my argument, hollow words are all you have to oppose this.

Ummm, but there are self-absorbed, why would he ever apologize? The fact that anyone thought that he should further proves how self-absorbed and arrogant Americans are.

And I am an American.

You need a history lesson my friend. Put down your news paper, turn off CNN, go return your high school learning material and learn something for a change.

If you want to talk about historical facts, you may also want to throw in there that the US is also at the hand of nearly every single modern war. Killing millions of people, and stomping their foot where ever they please.

But that's OK right, because we sent aid to Haiti.

Thank you for adding another item that makes my point. The American People are so selfless we stand up and risk our own lives to protect innocent people from oppression.
