New Acer laptop unresponsive at times

I got this laptop from Amazon by Acer early September for general school and light gaming.

As of recent, Chrome started to be unresponsive fairly often and it takes a while for anything on the screen to do anything. Is this a ram issue? Or is it because the processor is a little weak than it's i5 counterpart? I got it because it had a lot of more than average reviews and not many complaints about it being sluggish. I can't return it and get the i5 version of it anymore, so I'm hoping it's a ram problem since that's an easy upgrade to 8 gb.

only got 4 gb ram. possible run out of ram and using the slow hdd for more virtual memory.

Like rgd said; the more tabs open the more your pc will have to keep changing assets. Though it might be a dumb question : when was the last time you defragmented your storage, since it's an old school hdd ?

I just recently got this laptop a few months ago and I only really use it when I'm on campus so I felt there was no need to defragment so far. But to answer your question I never defragmented the storage since I got it around September.

Indeed I see, still I would say it's worth doing: my drives are defragmented on a daily basis every time I boot the os. I'm using o&o though am not paying a license past the trial since it's not required if you opt for a boot-time defrag, which is what I use on all my pcs. It can take a little while especially after three or four months, but if you reboot it once a day or even week, it's just a matter of seconds, though you can still skip it.
Could you give it a shot, to get that out of the way ?
