New Battery Advice

Hi,

Looking for a replacement battery for my current laptop (Dell Inspiron 1300) it only holds 10-15 minutes charge so I have been looking at the following to replace it with:

The OEM battery is 14.8W 29WH (1000mah??) but all the aftermarket ones on ebay are all 11.1V however with 7200, 8800mAh! Will this be a problem?

Also, do 12 cell batteries 'really' exist? I found a 12 cell 8800mAh battery above which is the same price as a 9 cell 7200mAh battery. (both unbranded ones.)

Yeah, 12 cells exist, but they're usually quite a bit larger than the more common 6 cells, and can protrude from the bottom of the laptop.

Also, is there any sort of identifier on your battery? As in, a serial number or model?
When you say 14.8W, I'm assuming you mean 14.8V.

For the large majority of laptops, they can accept voltages ranging anywhere from 9-16V, with most lying somewhere in the middle (especially through the DC jack, which is usually more tolerant to voltage changes). The thing is, you can't always be sure what your laptop will accept, unless it's well documented by others.

If you were going from an 11.1V stock battery to a 14.8V one, I'd be more confident saying to go for it. However, I'm not sure a computer shipping with a 14.8V one would play entirely nice with an 11.1V. I doubt it'd cause internal damage (power coming from the battery goes through a voltage regulator first, which draws some of it's own power), but it might not have the kick to keep everything running full steam.

I will try to find some 14.8V batteries but they are fairly expensive. Most are even OEM @ 150 bucks a peice!

Any more tips/suggestions on this? I simply can't seem to find a decent 14.8V batteries at a reasonable price. Most are crappy OEM spec and cost a fortune!

The battery you linked is still 11.1V as opposed to 14.8V of the standard battery (and very costly! )

Any suggestions on this?

Also, what do you mean when you said Inspirons don't like them? As in, it blows the laptop up or simply won't turn on etc?

Lol..I know they are expensive..but a genuine Dell battery is around 80 quid...

Ebay copy batteries (CHINESE) usually cost around 10 to 25 quid and around 10% OF THEM WORK....

If an Inspiron doesnt like the battery (copy etc) it will usually give you an error message every time you start and most times WILL NOT CHARGE the lappy...
