new battery ?

yesterday when my battery went to zero as I didn't have it plugged in to charge...I plugged it in & it charged to 100% easily but now it has a red x on the symbol on the bottom & when I click on it it states I have a problem with my battery so the computer could shut down suddenly... & says on top of the message to consider replacing the battery.....is this a glitch or what ?
