I just got an MSI GT70 2OC laptop and while the comp is awesome (nice to be back to windows after having mac for 5 years) I cannot get my apple ear buds to both bring in audio as well as act as the mic. The computer has 4 audio ports which have symbols of either being a mic. port or head set port. The other 2 look like input and output symbols perhaps. Regardless of which port i plug my earbuds into though I can only get it to act as a mic, or as a listening device, but not both. I've gone through seemingly all options of the realtek HD audio manager but cant seem to find a solution. In the audio recording/playback tool in the bottom right, the "line-in" is never connected for whichever port the earbuds are not in for me to force them to do what i want. While this is probably a dumb question, im genuinely stuck and cant figure out a solution of my own. Thanks for any help.

Hi
I believe Apple earbuds use a 4 pole 3.5mm jack while your laptop has separate ports for 3 pole jacks.
You will need something like this with the ear buds plugged into the socket and the jacks plugged into the headphone and microphone ports on the laptop.
