Is it worth buying 16GB of memory and an SSD drive for a DELL M4500 i7 running at 2.8GHz to run Win10 for about 300 dollars? Or just buy a new laptop. Since not all the drivers are available will it run as fast as a new laptop? I can test the SSD, but hate to spend the $170 for the DDR if it's not going to buy me anything.

Right now it has Win 10 and it's slow as molasses and the HDD is usually pegged at 100% and the memory at 90%+. Often the biggest hogs are the system level processor or the browser. So it looks like it's trashing the cache and using virtual memory on the HD.

Get a new laptop. That dell is OLD! Even if performance improves after the $300 upgrade, there is no guarantee the other components such a MOBO, CPU etc. will continue to last. After all, it is a really old laptop and the internals have already lasted way longer than they were intended to.

Splash the cash and get a new machine.
