New SSD in New Laptop

Hello, when looking through laptops I decided to go with the MSI GT60 Dominator-424 ( http/www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-gt60-dominator-424-15-6-34-laptop-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive-aluminum-black/5185111.p?skuId=5185111&id=1219113400423#tab=overview ) and want to put an SSD into it. I have a couple questions?
First: Should I be looking at 120gb or 250 gb (primary use for OS and maybe some games)?
Second: Should I get best buy (or whatever place i buy it from) to install the ssd?
Third: If I install it myself, should I install before first startup or wait until I can see if something is wrong with the laptop and then install the ssd?

1. 250 is the least I would go with for gaming.
2. Install it yourself its pretty easy
3.Wait just to make sure nothing is wrong with it just in case it needs to be returned.
4. Any reason for a laptop over a desktop?

Okay thanks for the suggestions. And I have to get a laptop for college. Probably during my Senior year I might build a desktop to have.

If you're getting a laptop specifically for college, might i suggest a completely unrelated Asus Vivobook? Quality of Asus products is amazing!

Don't buy the MSI GT60 Dominator from Best Buy, it's overpriced. You can get it cheaper here, where they have also already done the thermal paste upgrade.

If you're going to buy an SSD, get this Samsung 840 Evo. It should also come with software to port all of your current HDD's information over to it, allowing for a quick and seamless upgrade that you should easily be able to do yourself.

While you're at it, it's worth noting that the GT series laptops run pretty hot and you should pick up a good cooling pad.

First of all, laptops bought from anywhere are the same unless otherwised changed like from xoitcpc.com. Second, Best Buy is a reliable place to buy from (just as much as Newegg) and its not overpriced its actually under. Its 1499.99 on MSI.com and 1399.99 on BB and Newegg. Of course the GT is going to run hot, its a gaming laptop. And it only runs hot when playing big games at max settings i.e. Titanfall at max settings will bring heat. And MSI laptops have the cooler booster function on it for max cooling power from fan when doing hardcore gaming. And finally, whats the difference between the Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW and 840 EVO MZ-7TE250LW

I strongly considered both ASUS and MSI while looking. The laptop is intended for school and gaming, I should have clarified. And I probably would have gone with the ASUS if there was a 15.6 in screen because the 17 in would be nice but less portable

lol true but it would make sense if you had one for college and a full tower for gaming in your dorm or room. But roommateswould mess it up
