Nexus one internet connectivity for laptop

When away from Wi Fi area I would like to connect to internet on my laptop via my Nexus one mobile phone and i shall be grateful for advice as to how I do it

It is called tethering, and you cant do it without putting a custom rom on your phone, which means rooting it first.
So without rooting your phone, i dont think it can be done.
