Nexus tablet will no longer log in with gmail account

Suddenly my Nexus 7 tablet tells me it cannot log in. My password or something has changed suddenly on my gmail account. Since June, I've had trouble getting my gmail account to sync on my tablet. Now it has stopped syncing altogether. How can I fix this please?

If its your account reset your password and make sure caps lock isn't on. If its not you have to ask the persons whose account it is.

sorry - I should have mentioned - this is the auto log in that takes place by itself as part of the operating system.

Your solution was perfect. It took some work coordinating the passwords and access back and forth from desktop to tablet but it's back to working just fine again - in fact, better than it's worked since June. Thank you very much.
