[citation][nom]njalterio[/nom]I think those of you ranting against the Wii have forgotten the whole point of gaming: to have fun. Everyone is getting so caught up in whether a game is hard core or not, or has the latest trend in video game technology.I have been a Nintendo fan since SNES (I was five when it came out, NES was before my time). I also happen to really enjoy games like Fallout 3, Mass Effect, Never Winter Nights, UT3, HL2, FF7, the list goes on. You know what? I still enjoy the Wii! Rayman Raving Rabbids is absolutely hilarious. I just got Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Wii, and I've been blown away (yet again) as Nintendo finds a way to make an awesome series original again.

[citation][nom]njalterio[/nom]Not enough characters, storyline, and art for you? I guess I must have imagined Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, Metroid Prime, animal crossing, mario kart, resident evil, etc.[/citation]
I like a few of those games, but the only think on that List that isn't made by Nintendo is Resident Evil. You normally can't blame the console maker for the crap on their console, but they are going for a paradigm shift.

[citation][nom]ahmshaegar[/nom]I do understand you point, Tindytim. If you're into games with storylines and depth of that sort (and these games take time and resources to produce), this could be a bad thing. If companies see that these games with HUGE development costs just don't make the cash, they might scale back production on those games. This WILL hurt you. You won't be able to get those games anymore. That is unfortunate, but hey... life's not fair. I used to play those kinds of games myself, but I no longer have the time to play any large games. Heck, I don't even have time for the casual games that Nintendo makes. It's all about puzzles that I can solve in a few minutes before getting on with work[/citation]
This guy understands my point. We're going to see more companies going into games for the money. Not because they want to make good games, or have creative ideas. We already see these companies, but now Nintendo has created a large uninformed market that will buy these products.

I don't care much for these labels. After all, I enjoy Rock Band, and have clocked plenty of hours into the first 3 Guitar Hero games, all which fall into that mass appeal category.

If you have fun playing "Carnival Games", great for you. But I like a varied experience. I've started gaming less because of the large move to FPSs, not because I don't want to, but because the market diversity was starting to drain. But this is much worse. Grandma and Jimmy are only going to buy a few games, every now and then. I, on the other hand, will end up owning +40 games for a single console by the end of it's life. I enjoyed Folklore, Valkyria Chronicles, Fable 2, and Skate. We are going to see even less of such variety in the future, and I'll have fewer reasons to buy anything new.

I've owned every Nintendo console (sans the Virtual Boy) up to the Wii. My experience with them had been good until I was around some of my younger cousins.

I personally thought Fallout 3 was mediocre, less or a game, and more of a TC of Oblivion with some bugfixes. I don't know why I included that, but I felt like it was worth mentioning.

I picked it up way back when it came out. I thought it was pretty good as well. I was weary of the Wolf mechanic, but it worked out surprisingly well. It didn't feel original, which I think worked for it. It felt very nostalgic.

Did you notice that Nintendo produces every one of those Series except Resident Evil? Do you miss the part where I said:
[citation][nom]Tindytim[/nom]Don't get me wrong, I love most of the actual games Nintendo produces (WiiFit is not a game!)[/citation]

Normally, I wouldn't blame console makers for what's on their console. But they're attempting to change the paradigm, and these companies are going with that idea.

Well isn't that happening to all of the consoles?

Granted the "mini game" genre of video games isn't being released on the other consoles, or at least not as prevalent, but their are still plenty of watered down games being released that people love to buy (every Final Fantasy game since 7 and every Madden/NFL game).

You are right, consoles are definitely realizing the market that exists for these low-cost of development games. I still think though that the in-depth games that we appreciate are going to stick around. Fallout 3 has sold over 4.7 million copies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout_3#Reception). I think developers know where the real money is made.

[citation][nom]Eccentric909[/nom]The 70-80 year old grandmas and grandpas standing in line to buy Wii's for themselves, want nothing to do with "hardcore" games. Little Jimmy/Julie 6 year old is having way more fun with pointing and clicking, and the group of middle-aged parents whom are throwing a super bowl party are playing Rayman Raving Rabbids during the half-time show. They want nothing to do with "hardcore" games. [/citation]

Thanks for the post that points out what should be obvious even to a fanboy. Tindytim see's games of vast world scape, gorgeous graphics, and intense action packed game play disappearing because of Nintendos' success with a technically inferior console during this current generation of hardware.

I believe that there is room enough for both. With the popularity of titles like Halo, MGS, Spintercell, GOW, etc... I don't see that being the case.

I think the gaming market has been expanded. I think developers have been given a bigger, more creative, flexible canvas. That is a good thing in my opinion.
