I have a new SONY TV - BRAVIA KDL-55W829B
I want to get audio from my 3 year old 5.1 surround sound system SSS. This surround sound works great from other source like the SKY + box.
I'm in the uk.
I haven't plugged in the old style aerial so I get the TV through the cable / dish twin feed and don't think that would be related but I mention this as the TV doesnt have any programs stored separate issue. Maybe the analogue aerial would fix that but isnt the cable digital - I kind of assume they are separate systems ??
Back to the lack of audio - I bought an optical audio cable as I thought the issue was that the USB plugs in the tv so the sound signal needs to get to the surround sound box and I thought the hdmi SHOULD be able to do that but I got desperate to try anything.
In the back of the surround system which is a samsung I have two input hdmi and a 3rd that is the one OUT for the tv (seems to enable two way control - so that the tv talk to the SSS).
the 2nd hdmi IN I use for xbox and the sound is fine - so if I had a third hdmi IN it feels like I need the tv to send back down to the SSS for it to then go back to the TV.
If I take out ALL the cables the situation is simple - the TV plays back without any box ! So thats why I thought I DO need the optical cable to run to the SSS. I have yet to try the headphones out into the SSS - not sure I have a cable for that. But the red and white LR cables should be as simple as it gets and that doesn't work. I'm using D-IN on the SSS.
I have the old RCA audio jacks to test that it might be the optical cable but again no sound.
I checked and played with the settings in the SSS and that changes nothing.
This has got me stumped ! Thanks for any ideas.
