No network connection on mobile

I have an Android 4.2.2 phone and cannot get an internet connection. I can browse if i use wifi connected to my home network but using the mobile network i get 'connect server failed no network service' on one browser and 'webpage not available' on the other. All other facilities work like phone calls,etc..
Any suggestions as to whether this is a software or hardware fault and any solutions would be appreciated. It is a new phone but i don't want to send it back if i can help it. Thanks.

Are you sure you have data turned on with the phone? It sounds like it got turned off. You can also take the phone to the place where your purchased it and they should be able to help you diagnose it.
