I just had to take a look. Not being a Verizon customer (a very happy one
now) Verizon still has the worst phone line-up there possibly is for such a
"great" and "fantastic" wireless phone company. They're almost in the dark
ages with the lineup they have. My god man, how do you people deal with the
limitations?

The price you pay for a great CDMA network when everyone else is GSM.

Problem is GSM just doesn't have the coverage that Verizons CDMA network
has, at least in my area.

Are you my brother Tom?

He was always whining about verizon.

His big complaint was how verizon phones have that little piece that sticks
out (for the antenae).

It's easy. We just push the buttons real hard when we make a call and talk
louder than normal once we're connected. Otherwise, we get by OK.

I get along very well with my tri-mode StarTAC. It even has analog so
I can make calls out in the boonies. I don't care about games, color
screens, pictures, internet etc. I just want to make and receive
calls-that's all.

I want to do more than make calls. The Kyocera 7135 is *exactly*
what I wanted... *and* I can make calls.

Limitations? Hmm, I make and receive calls and check stock quotes.
That is all I need/want.

I can make and receive full duplex voice calls, send and receive text
messages, receive voicemail notification all in a reliable fashion on VZWs
network with my existing phone. What is missing?

I think phone features are rather subjective to the user comparing them, and
also probably has a lot to do with age, desired use, and expectations from the
phone.

For a starters a cell phone should be that a CELL PHONE.

I do NOT WANT:

A PDA
A camera
A PC
Bluetooth
GPS for tracking of me
IR links

Which I bet all or most of the above is on your list of "cool features." I also
would be willing to bet that most or all of the functions, features etc. I
desire are exactly opposite of what your looking for in a cell phone.

My phone is also NOT a fashion statement. I don't care that its got some cool
looking logo of some team or something on it.

What I DO WANT:

BIGGER BIGGER BIGGER PHONES! I don't care if it can fit in my shirt pocket, my
purse, my gucci bag, or what not. Phones are too small to be useable by real
humans with real sized fingers.

BIGGER BIGGER SCREENS! I want to be able to read the damn thing with out a
electron microscope to see the screen.

ANALOG and DIGITAL! Kyocera jumped the gun on the digital only slider phone,
which was a phone that might have just barely met my needs. With FULL 0.6W
analog power.

BAN FLIP phones. Gawd do I hate these things. Worst design ever.

MP3 player w/FM STEREO, FM public safety 136--512 , AM aircraft 108-136MHz with
a few presets and scanning, WX rcv, WX ALERTS w/SAME ALERTS and the ability to
use the phone with WX alerting active and scanning on the PS/AIR bands active.
TV Audio would be a plus too. MMC or SD or something for MP3 stuff storage.

1XRTT Data mode & Fax mode with serial port to connect to a PC for internet,
data and fax use.

GPS, but ONLY if tracking mode/privacy hijacking modes can be turned OFF. Can
DEFEAT prevent 911 calls from sending this info and 911 modes can be turned off
in the phone. Also the GPS should support NEMA outputs so that it can be tied to
a PC for GPRS etc..

A REAL TNC, SMA, BNC or any other REAL EXTERNAL antenna connector to connect to
real antennas

A REAL ANTENNA on the phone itself. At 800MHz and 1900MHz some decent 2-3db GAIN
antennas should be possible. YES that means NO COLLAPSING little wire thingys!
Remember this is RADIO DEVICE.

*USER* SELECTABLE start up screens, idle, wallpaper, that the carriers can NOT
lock out.

*USER* UPLOADABLE & SELECTABLE ring tones, that the carriers can NOT lock out.

PDA is logical and should be a given for those of us who are employed.
Don't know why you would want to have two separate places for contacts
and another for your PDA. No need to carry both devices. So this one
is not viable.

Size -- Most want small phones. Most of us have home and office
telephones and understand the definition of "mobile" means a
compromise an area somewhere. I'd bet 90%+ easily want smaller rather
than larger.

Flip Phones -- Couldn't disagree more. They keep phone size small and
also protect the screen. Invaluable to most of us who put it in their
jacket, briefcase, etc. or don't want it on their belt because it
makes us look like a custodian.

Radio -- unnecessary and completely different mechanism, especially
tuning. Nice to have but sooner see the others you don't want.

Get real dickhead. You already state you don't have a verizon phone anymore,
and then you have the audacity to come into the verizon NG telling people
how stupid they are not to get rid of what you don't have any more.
Well guess what, I for one, am happy as a clam that asses like you are no
longer customers! Have fun with whatever POS phone you ended up with that
has bells and whistles instead of service.
Too bad, I heard a contest tried to call you and tell you that you won a
million dollars, but they couldn't reach you cuz of no service and gave it
to someone else... :)

Simple, I don't need or want a PDA. My present phone has something 75-100 memory
locations. I use 10-15 of them tops. Any number I need to dial is stored in the
PDA nature gave me, my brain.

>Size -- Most want small phones. Most of us have home and office
>telephones and understand the definition of "mobile" means a

Phone ares are too small:

1) Buttons too small to use for a normal human, can not comfortable hit buttons
or hit multiple buttons

2) Screens too small to read for a normal human

3) The size is less than optimal in the ear to mouth setup for comfort and
usability.

Smaller is not better for usability. Smaller they get the less useable they are
as a PDA, PC, game device etc..

>Flip Phones -- Couldn't disagree more. They keep phone size small and
>also protect the screen.

Couldn't disagree more. Uncomfortable to use, extra step to answer or make
calls, flip open, hit button (s). (Even if the phone offers auto answer, I don't
want something auto answering.)

> Invaluable to most of us who put it in their
>jacket, briefcase, etc. or don't want it on their belt because it
>makes us look like a custodian.

It is NOT A FASHION statement. I could care less how small the phone is, how
cute it is, how it fits in your jacket, purse, pocket or any thing else.

The opinion of others, especially of my phone, doesn't really matter to me. I
don't care what they think about my phone, if it makes me look like a geek, a
nerd, a custodian or any thing else. The phone serves its purpose to make calls
in an emergency or a timely manner when away from home or in the car as needed.

>Nice to have but sooner see the others you don't want.

Which proves my point exactly.

What *you* want and what *I* want in a phone are not even remotely close.

Which if I looked, I bet I am anywhere from 10 to probably DOUBLE your age,
which also plays into what I expect and you expect from a cell phone.

I would bring back the Motorola 8000UH brick phones in a hearbeat. You want to
add all that other stuff to one of these, fine. At least my fingers could fit to
the buttons, and the screen was readable, even if it was on LED's v. a LCD.

Top line RF performance on CDMA & AMPS with FULL power allowable

Top line RF performance in the antenna, its a radio, it has antenna, at 800 &
1900 MHz DECENT REAL antennas and real connectors to antennas in a cars can be
made.
