No Power Off

i have an ASUS N53 Notebook pc running widows 7 when you hit the shutdown button the pc shuts down almost if an external hard drive is connected the power light is still on the power liht on the notebook is still on so is the 2 lights next to the power led.

The lights stay this way until you press the power button when this is pressed the notebook shuts down and then the External Hard drive power led is out and then you can put this notebook in its case until next time.

This is not normal operation so how do you stop this from happening?

You need to change your power options in control panel, Go to Control panel, power options, click on the highlighted power plan you're using select advanced options, then go to setting for power button and lid. change to shut down most often this is set to hibernate or sleep as standard..
Me I have all green features turned off.
