no sound from my receiver to speakers.

i bought vsx 1029 pioneer reveiver yesterday.i hook up my speakers .attach my receiver with dish box through opitcal wire only one speaker is working .i am new to 7.1 receiver pls help/

What about other sources? Internet radio or iPod ?
