Solved! Non internet required thermostat/switches?

Hello all,

Does anyone know if there are any manufacturer's that do not require internet access to control their smart thermostats/light switches? I do not understand the reasoning (aside from farming info from customers) why the app on my phone would need to contact a remote server for the server to then send a command back to the thermostat (2 feet from me) to increase the temp by 1 degree. If there is an actual functional reason for this process I would honestly be interested in hearing what that is.

Thanks,
Brad

Insteon and others make such systems. They are closed systems though and only work with their products. Check out Home Depot website.

Reasons modern systems use cloud.

  1. It makes installation easier
  2. Allows control from remote locations
  3. Allows control from various devices like smartphones, tablets, alexa echo, etc.
