ive been eyeing a new laptop as i would like to sell my older a10-4600m based laptop and also get rid of my a10-7860k based HTPC i have. Basically consolidate down to a single unit.

Ive been tempted by some of the i5-7300hq + gtx1050 models that are floating around and ive seen then in the mid to upper 600 range and rarely as low as $599. It is a little more than i need in terms of power.

The i5-7200u + gt1030(mx150) would be a great all around for me in a standard 15.6" chassis, with 1080p ips panel and any m.2 ssd with room for a second 2tb standard 2.5mm hdd. Any ideas when these will be available? I would guess given the specs it would cost at least $100 less than the quad core + gtx models with otherwise the same basic specs.

if the price difference is not much($100) then its a no brainer to skip the better cpu+gpu combo even if u dont really need them.in my country they just put the mx150 equipped acer notebook on stores shelves a few days ago.here the acer with mx150 is slightly cheaper like 100-200 compare to the new acer nitro 5 with the gtx 1050.mind u where i live the gaming model usually will bundle with free ram upgrade, ssd and gaming accessories.u can check out amazon or newegg if it is no yet available locally,

thanks rgd, i had already been there. it does keep getting updated with relevant models. i searched a few already but many seem to be european or asian market models only. other sources seem to point toward end of q3 or early q4 US releases.

you are right kookie... if the price difference is negligible then the higher end model may be the better option. but $$$ talks. all things being equal, a 2c4t cpu(15w) + gt1030(25w) will draw considerably less wattage than a 4c4t(45w) + gtx1050(40-50w) thus affecting battery life, heat, and noise. also there appears to be 13.3" models as well but i assume they will cost considerably more.

i will keep my eyes peeled for deals, coupon codes, new models, etc. and see if anything pans out.

The only gripe I have with the laptop is the screen is that the screen is rather dim at less than 250 nits. Good enough to use indoors, but not for outdoor use.

thanks, but you can get dell 5000 gaming inspirons with a 7300hq and a gtx1050 for right around $600-650 on a deal. a 2c4t mx150 rig in the same body should cost noticeably less.
