Old power adapters for hp laptops

Between my wife and I, we have had several HP laptops over the years.
When the laptops go bad we toss them but have accumulated several power adapters.

Does anyone know if it is safe to use old power adapters on newer laptops. And to mix and match them among different computers.

Its nice to have extra power cables to leave one at my home and another at the office but I am concerned about different power requirements / restrictions.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. Every model of laptop is different in regard to power requirements, i.e. especially if they are different brands. I'd be worried about overloading a battery with juice, which could in theory cause some major damages. Second, if the power adapter doesn't have enough juice, well, you're just wasting your time.

The power requirements of a notebook are listed on the bottom of it. If they match the PSU's outputs (listed on the PSU) you're good.
