I still remember an old nokia hack in which a special sms is recieved, the phone will freeze, the only way to restore it is to remove the battery.

"if you find yourself affected by this issue, a hard reset should restore messaging functionality."
Microsoft brings the "Format/Re-install" ritual to phones.

"Waiting to hear excuses from all the MS fan boys on this site."
There are MS fanboys?

Remember the postal chain mails where you needed to forward the letter to 10 people or something bad happens ?
Well, this little bug could be used to make an actual working version of that in the SMS world :)
Forward my SPAM to 10 of your friends or something bad will happen to your phone; tada... Lord, I should patent this before Apple does ! :)

I'm not an MS fanboy, but my wife and I do love our WP7.5 phones.

The way things are going with WP's lack of market success, any bad publicity like this is a big blow to Nokia and WP7. :(

I will be a real shame if these great phones don't make it.

Ouch, this is quite harsh and a serious problem.

While certainly the mistake is on their end would you ever have guessed this to even be possible? This is not something I would be prepared for. The fact is now that phones have expanded capabilities they have opened themselves to more vulnerabilities as well.
This isn't a excuse but its come time for consumers to realize whether running Android, iOS, or WP there are going to be security issues and there will always be holes that are exploited.

Wasn't their a bug about a year ago that would cause some SMS messages being sent from Android devices to be sent to the wrong (random) recipient? Yeah, that happened.

Anyways, this appears to be a bug in the WP Messaging hub and not in the SMS/MMS client itself. The freeze can be caused by a facebook message or post, Messenger chat message, SMS, or most other chat clients that support the Messaging hub. This would also explain why it only affects 7.5 phones. It probably has to do with the way that message interacts with one of those clients and the Hub cannot reconcile the error. I wouldn't be suprized if it was caused by the facebook client, but I won't pass judgement until I hear more about it.

Wow, you WP fanboys are bunch of haters. I don't think I've ever seen so many negative flags in a comment section before.

Just because you like a certain product doesn't mean that everyone else has to like it. That is more of an Apple mentality.

Interesting that microsoft haters seem to think this problem only happens on WP7.
I'm pretty sure similar problems(or worse) have happened on other phone operating systems

[citation][nom]jacekring[/nom]This is going to be a pain in the rear to fix. As M$ has to come up with a patch, and then all the manufacturers have to get the patch to work with all their custom builds of the OS for each individual windows 7.5 phone.[/citation]
are you talking about android, MS doesn't distribute the source code of windows so noone other builds them

there are NO custom builds

WP7 is NOT Android

I'm no fanboy for either of the three main teams. What does annoy me is one eyed posts. People who seem to think a problem like this(for example) is isolated to one OS.

Remember when iOS first came out? and the amount of holes in it? Android too?

People should balance their arguments and drop the hypocritical posts
