Hi, I have connected my desk top to an Onkyo R558 receiver to tv, my trouble is that my receiver gets too hot and goes on and off on interval. What could be the problem? HDMI connection

Solution
This does not have anything to do with your computer but an issue with the receiver. Get that looked at by a tech, if you had to ask your question here you probably don't have the knowledge to take apart the receiver to re-do the heatsinks and check for other issues.

Some Onkyo receivers has had HDMI board problems that make the audio cut out. They have an out of warranty repair on those but that wouldn't make the receiver rune hot.
You may not have enough power. The impedance of your speakers can make this worse.
The receiver may need better ventilation or a fan to cool it.
Check the speaker wires to make sure there are no shorts.
