Only seeing one HDMI audio device through a splitter

When I plug my HP monitor into the HDMI splitter after the monitor goes black as if I connected a new device to the hdmi port, my PC removes the TV as an available HDMI audio device and replaces it with the monitor, when the monitor is unplugged the TV shows up as an audio device again.

I have tried disabling the monitor as an HDMI audio device and restarting, as well as switching the output ports. When plugging and unplugging the TV from the splitter my graphics card does not cause my monitors to go black as if I'm plugging in a new device.

HDMI splitter: 1x2 HDMI splitter by sowtech
Video card: GTX 980Ti
Monitor: HPw2408h
TV: Sony Bravia
