Yeah, it would be great for educational purposes. Image opening up an e-textbook, highlighting interesting text, copying and pasting it into iWorks... Oh, wait. No multitasking. You'd have to close the textbook in order to open iWorks. Then to go back, close iWorks and open the text again. So, you what is the market for this again?

I'm sorry, but not even Steve Ballmer is idiot enough CEO to "just let it slip" like that. NDAs? Legal agreements? A CEO will know all about shit like that.

Maybe this was planned - McGraw-Hill worked with Apple for a long time ready for the launch of the Apple tablet. They took one look at the finished item and thought "dear sweet Christ no" but can't back out of legally-binding agreements. So what does Terry do? Blab about the tablet, ruin Job's "moment" knowing FULL WELL McGraw-Hill will get kicked out of the deal.

I didn't even think about that. It's a good thing I have a Kindle so I can get that sort of functionality.

Seriously, it's laughable the blind illogical hatred being shown towards this device. The Kindle DX is $400. The iPad is $500. If I was in the market for an e-reader and was eying the DX I would gladly, GLADLY, pay the extra $100 and upgrade to the iPad.

The only real problem with the device that can't be fixed by a software update is the lack of a front facing camera. Everything else can (and will) be updated and/or replaced with a software update.

I can only imagine (and laugh) how different the reactions would be to this device if 1.) It wasn't released by Apple and 2.) It wasn't called the iPad. Most of the guys that comment on this site have no reservations about showing a pathetic amount of bias.

If the Kindle were marketed as a magical, revolutionary device that will replace netbooks, then yeah, you'd have a point. But it's not. The Kindle is marketed as a digital book reader. Nothing more. And that's what it does. It lets you read a book digitally.

The iPad is marketed as a netbook replacement, so we expect it to do the things a netbook can, like multitask and install your own programs, etc. It can't. That's why we laugh.

We also laugh to avoid the pain of knowing that, even though it is a piece of shit, it will sell millions to ignoramuses everywhere and be mega-successful. ;_;

If someone tries to show off their iPad to me, i'll show off my jailbroken 64gb iTouch, with multitasking, 1080p playback, etc. As soon as the hackers get their hands on the VGA adapter, we'll be running iTouchs as media centers or full fledged PC (considering that they already have bt mouse and keyboard support for the itouch).
