Downloaded due to MS office cost after limited version expired, can not download word docs. Any thoughts to cure my lack of knowledge. Retired, not informed on this obviously. Thanks

Do you mean you can't open Word files? If you do mean download, where are you downloading them from?
You can downloading the latest version of Open Office which is version 4.1 from https/www.openoffice.org/ and see if that helps with opening the Word files.
