I've got a unique room and I've been looking at tvs in the 34" - 36" range.
Because I will need to pull the tv off the wall and angle it in a corner in
order for it to be fully seen by all the seating positions, I initially
thought of going with Sony's top of the line 34" tube, the KD-34XBR960.
After looking a little further, I've got bitten by the plasma bug and am now
thinking of the Sony KDE-37XS955 Plasma TV. Anyone have any thoughts on my
choices (apples to oranges I know) or this Sony plasma in particular?
Thanks for any input.

From what I read on AVS Forums, the 34XBR960 has the best HDTV pix period.
Also, you will not have problems with fast action or burned out pixels
experienced with a plasma.

Has anyone determined if Sony will still sell the 34XBR960 next year, or
will they bring out a new 34 -36" directview tube HDTV?

The Sony XS955 are very good plasmas, but have gotten very expensive
compared to the other plasmas as the other brands have aggressively cut
prices and Sony has not. If you are looking at a 37" HD plasma, you
should look at the Panasonic TH-37PX50U which lists for $2999, a full
$1500 less than the 37" Sony. The pickings in the 37" HD and even ED
plasma are thin beyond these two models, but I would recommend the Panny
over the Sony even if they were the same price.

However, if you can handle the sheer size and weight of the CRT, the
Sony 34" XBR CRT is a very highly regarded TV. But I am now at a point
where I find 34" widescreens to be small...

The 37" Sony is a good plasma but they're over priced for what you
get. For the same or less money, you can get the newly released
Panasonic TH-42PX500U which has better picture quality, larger
screen size, lots of features, better sound, a swivel stand, and
a better warranty.

If you don't need the extra features of the PX500 series, you
might like the PX50 series which has the same glass but less
feautures and lower price, and they make this model in a 37"
if you sit close (like 6-8 feet).
