Optical amplifier needed

I have a Samsung Smart TV and a Yamaha home theater system. They are connected by HDMI and an optical cable. I can play a movie from a streaming service selected on the TV (HBO, Netflix, etc) through the TV/Home Theater just fine. My problem is I often need to play the audio output through my Bragi bluetooth ear buds to avoid disturbing my mother-in-law who lives above the AV room. When I connect the optical feed directly to my bluetooth transmitter and use the built in app on the TV for the movie source, I have no sound at all in the bluetooth headset even though the TV menu says the output is going to the optical cable. There is a signal there but it has no volume. How do I solve this issue so that I have controllable volume in my ear buds? My bluetooth transmitter has optical in and out and mini-RCA in and out but my TV only has optical out and my Yamaha only has optical in. Do they make an amplifier that I could put in the optical line between the TV and bluetooth transmitter to control the bluetooth volume? Is there another way?

Solution
The BT transmitter will only work with a PCM stereo input. You probably have the optical output set for bitstream to get surround sound in the AV room.
You can change the output when you want to use the headphones.
Or you can split the optical audio output.

Connect one output to the HTS.
Connect the other to an optical to analog converter that is compatible with 5.1

That will connect to the BT transmitter analog input.
