Optical output has killed the display???!

Ok so I was bought a sound bar for Christmas and have finally got around to setting it up and noticed there were sound blips every now and again so decided to opt in for a optical cabe o run from the bar to the pc (Asus crosshair formula z mobo) as soon as I connected it all up and switchEd it back on the monitor now received no signal at all.


Can anyone help? Is it something I've done or not done. Hoping I haven't blown anything as I can't afford to replace much at the moment

Have you disconnected the sound bar and connected the monitor directly to the GPU?

I've just switched everything back off all the way to the way plug left it a minute and turned it all on again minus the sound bar and optical cable and has now booted up fine. Is it worth trying to connect up the sound bar with the optical cable whilst it's on, see of that makes a difference??
