I have read that HDMI provides higher audio resolution than Optical if blu rays support it, no problem there as my blu ray player is connected via HDMI to my audio receiver. My question is when watching streaming services on my television itself, would there be a difference in quality using Optical instead of HDMI since they don't have high resolution audio?

Solution
Unless your TV supports eARC the optical and HDMI-ARC connections would be the same. If you already have an HDMI from the HTS to the TV and both the TV and HTS support ARC you might as well use it rather than add an additional cable.
