Orbit Downloader Saves Same File with Different Names after Downloading

By default the Orbit Downloader is configured to rename the files after downloading if it detects the same file in the default download folder. The files are renamed if any file is present in the default download folder with the same name, regardless of its size. This means that if you have downloaded any earlier version of file that has the identical name as the newer version (for example, Setup.exe), the Orbit Downloader automatically renames and saves another copy of the file rather than overwriting it.

This default configuration of the program is set so that no files are overwritten accidentally. However, as an end-user, you might not want this kind of configuration. The reason behind this can be that if you have downloaded a file that has a particular name, when you start downloading the same file, you might not want a copy of the same file to be saved on the computer as it might occupy the double space on your hard disk drive. Therefore, in order to avoid such situations, you can configure your instance of Orbit Downloader to overwrite the file if it has the same name, rather than renaming it and saving multiple copies of the same file.

After following the instructions given in this tutorial, you will be able to configure your instance of Orbit Downloader to overwrite the files that have identical names.

Here is what you need to do:

    ■Log on to the computer on which Orbit Downloader is installed.

    ■Initialize the Orbit Downloader program if it was not already started during the Windows boot process.

    ■Once initialized, right-click the Orbit Downloader icon in the system tray at the bottom right corner of the computer screen.

    ■From the displayed context menu, go to Preferences.

    ■On the opened Preferences box, from the left pane, click to select the Location category.

    ■From the right pane, choose Overwrite from the If the file already exists drop-down list.

    ■Once done, click OK to save the changes.

    ■Restart the Orbit Downloader application in order to allow the changes to take effect.

    ■If the modifications are still not reflected, restart the computer and then try again.
