Although you're somewhat right I would argue with the harshness of your statement. My phone camera is a 3.2MP on an Android phone and it takes decent 'necessity of the moment' picutres. I also have a good Olympus 4MP camera (6 years old maybe?) I've been "borrowing" from my dad. Although it's older, the difference that the good lens brings is immense. What cell phone cameras are missing is the optics, not the MegaPixels. I don't care if it has 30MP if it's out of focus and blurry because the lens is smaller than the eraser on my pencil.

[citation][nom]LePhuronn[/nom]You've obviously never taken a picture worth keeping in your life then.[/citation]Not that I'm siding with the guy, but he has a POINT. You do NOT need a high resolution camera to take nice pictures. You need a good sensor and at LEAST 4mp. Nuff said.

[citation][nom]haplo602[/nom]you fail ... one of the numbers is focal lenght, the other is aperture (hard to tell which is which in this chip format). this is no zoom ...[/citation]
The number right next to the F: or 1: is the aperture. And the number to the right of the slash '/' is the focal length. In this case this camera would be a F/2.8 with 4.6mm range.
So the conclusion is that there is no optical zoom. Maybe a digital zoom at best. :)

Excited. I use a SH-06A that sports a 10.0MP CCD sensor, made by Sharp. It takes better quality photos than any phone in this side of the world.

The Lumix phone comes from a similar breed of Galapagos phones. Sharp, a non-player in the camera market, designed and crafted a stunning picture-snapper. A Lumix phone should be amazing.

The naysayers should only say something after actually using the 12.1MP CCD seris by Sharp. Those models can even challenge point-and-shoot cameras in terms of picture and video quality.

[citation][nom]idisarmu[/nom]Have you ever considered the fact that 30" monitors are only 4MP?For 5x8 prints, 4MP is plenty. For 11x17 prints, 4MP is still good enough.[/citation]

You do know that a 30" monitor with 4MP resolution has only 100 pixels per inch, right? You can print 300 or even 600 dpi on paper. There is a big difference when comparing a 100 dpi print to a 600 dpi print. And if you care to do the math, a 300 dpi 11x17 print will require 17MP and 600 dpi will require 67MP (600*600*11*27)! Try it in photoshop. Create an 11x17 image with 600 dpi resolution and check the pixel resolution (6600*10200).

At 100 dpi, you only require 2MP... but that won't look even remotely as good as a 600dpi print.

If u read the above toms article u know what I m taking about!!!

other thing is ,,owning a higher MP camera wont make u a better photographer unless u dont have any creativity...

Yes you can, if you have tens of thousands dollars worth of studio lighting equipment. And even then, the pictures look grainy. It would look even worse when printed on a 8.5X11 paper.

[citation][nom]shaun_shaun[/nom]just dont blame the iPhone 3GS..it cant do anything to improve ur creativity....http://www.tomsguide.com/us/iPhone [...] -7348.htmlu need to quit using ur camera !!!!![/citation]

Take a picture in low light with an iPhone 3GS. Take another picture using any DSLR- even in program mode, in the same location. Compare the 2 photographs on a 30" screen. If you don't see the difference, you're blind!

I agree that a better camera will not help with your creativity, but it will help you take better quality pictures.

of course there is a distinct different between a DSLR and point and shoot camera .. but lots of people dont like to carry a big SLR for day-to-day usage ....

There you go. So stop implying in your comments that resolution and equipment don't matter. They do matter. Lots of people like to carry a big DSLR simply because they take better pictures with it. Creativity is important but equipment matters too.

I m sure u r caring ur DSLR with u when u go to work, toilet, and everywhere but I dont like that !!!!

I've seen a lot of great photos done shot with a phone. I think it's more about the photographer than the equipment. As to the value of that, there is a new site called Phonestockfoto.com that is selling CamPhone photos as stock photography.
