I'm in the process of updating my 300A also, you can download the software
and instructions form http/www.pansatusa.com/download.htm

I ordered the Serial Null Modem 6ft. DB9-F to DB9-F cable from
http/www.pccables.com/cgi-bin/orders6.cgi?action=Showitem&id=ID1767783&partno=02004&search=MODEM&rsite=pccables.comcgi&rcode=

This will be my first time doing this, but I see no reason why it shouldn't
work.

You need a straight through cable.
