Passmark Performance Test Problems

Hi all,

At the moment I'm just experimenting with an old PC. I tried running Passmark Performance Test but when it's collecting all the info the PC shuts down and reboots. I don't know what the problem might be.

Here's the specs (maybe they'll help):
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 LGA775 @ 2.93Ghz
Motherboard: ABIT SG-80DC LGA 775
RAM: 2GB DDR
GPU: Integrated SIS Mirage Graphics
OS: Windows XP Home SP3 32-Bit
PSU: Dell 250 watt (I think)

There are certainly systems listed on Passmark baselines of a similar specification to yours and using XP 32-bit. Among my vintage systems I have a 2004 Dell 8400 with a Pentium 4 630 (3GHz) and Windows 7 Professional that ran Performance Test 8 well as did a 1998 Pentium III 750 (PT7) and a 2006 Optiplex with AMD X2 6000+.

My guess is that the integrated graphics can not run the DirectX or some other portion of the graphics test. I'm not sure, but I think PT will not run DirectX 9 (must be 10 or 11) which is listed as the SiS Mirage Graphics specification. You might try the test again and make notes of the point at which the test fails. If it fails after the CPU tests, then I would suggest something along the lines of integrated graphics subsystem not being compatible. The ABIT SG-80DC uses AGP so if you can borrow an AGP card from somewhere that would confirm the idea.

The Passmark staff are extremely helpful and genuinely interested in PT working for everyone. I had a situation in which a system would not complete PT and Passmark set up a system in Australia with the same software to try and simulate the failure. Amazing support!

Sorry for the late reply. Only saw your reply now. I'll take note of when it fails. I have an old geforce mx440se I could substitute. So I'll get back to you with my fidings.

Update: I tried it again and found that the system reboots when it starts collecting the Ram Speed info straight after collecting the CPU info. I have not touched any SPDs and frequencies of the ram. I tried it with the mx440 too with no luck.
