Hi all

I am new to the world of laptops and gaming. I am looking for a decent laptop with decent gaming capabilities with a decent price. My gaming requirements are not high.

Medium to low will work for me.

Upon research I found that new core i5 3rd gen intel processors are in U series (e.g 3317U). However I wanted a core i5 M series e.g 3210M because of better

performance results. But M series are no longer generally available unless to search a lot in the market. My second option is AMD A-10 4600M.

Similarly for GPU, i searched and found that Radeon HD 7670M is a good gpu. It also outperforms 7650M and 7570M and 8670M (as on game-debate).

Now I am in a dilemma of what to select. I have narrowed doen my options to few. For me it doesnot make much difference if its i Dell but it makes a difference if its

HP probook or Pavilion. Personally I will like Probook.

My laptop use will be everyday use and some college stuff but no so much multitasking etc. But I will certainly like gaming.

here are few links to which I am considering to buy. All rpices are in PKR and 1 dollar = 105 PKR approx. I agree that these are some old models but nevertheless in my

country they are the best as compared to new ones. And besides I will always prefer old M series compared to U as I dont want to compromise on performance as compared

to wattage etc.

I want your advice on these laptops. Generally for me I think the "A10 4600M with Radeon HD 7660g + 7670M dual (1GB)" is a good option but it is in Pavilion g6. Other

two are are in Probook but I personally did't like the graphics card in Probooks. Had it been something like 7670M instead of 7650M, I would have straight away gone

for this one. What you guys suggest for this?

And will I be able to play for e.g COD Ghost on low-medium settings? on which of these. (Although all cards are not good enough for this).

One more thing that all the 1gb 7670M are mentioed DDR3 instead of DDR5. I dont know why.

It is a pretty long list. Actually I am so much confused in what things to look more for.

I rejected 7) 8) 9) and 10) because of the card (I really like Probook though with 7200rpm HDD). 6) because of low processing speed, 5) as it is 14 inch, and of course from 2) 3) and 4) 2) is the best.

But AMD A10 4600M in 2) is comparable to 3317U in 6) but 6) has 2GB HD 7670 while 2) has a dual. and 6) is Envy but 2) is a Pavilion.

This has so much confused me. Because I have one time investment for at least two years from now.

Prices

Solution
stuttering..
you can use radeon pro to minimize this effect.. => http://www.radeonpro.info/2013/03/crossfire-microstutter-afterburner-vs-radeon-pro/
actually amd new driver almost can handle this problem..with lesser stuttering issue compared to older version..

GeForce GT 630M, HD 8670M, HD 7670M is work in same level of performance..

Radeon HD 7660G + 7670M is better..faster than gt650m..

but unfortunately, number 2(which is equipped with this card combination), have only a rather weak processor if we compared to i5 class..
a10 4600k give almost same performance with i3 class cpu..well, it's not too shabby..:D

and you stated "My laptop use will be everyday use and some college stuff but no so much multitasking etc. But I will certainly like gaming."..
well, then get best graphic..

HP Pavilion g6-2102ax is the answer..

well, i'm afraid not..
cod ghost minimum system requirement is NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 / ATI Radeon HD 5850 or better discreet card..

and that hp dual graphic even slower than gt240..

Thanks for the help.
Based on game debate

http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=1136&gid2=1022&compare=radeon-hd-7660g-hd-7670m-dual-vs-geforce-gt-630m-2gb-ddr3

http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=1136&gid2=773&compare=radeon-hd-7660g-hd-7670m-dual-vs-radeon-hd-7670m

dual is 44% better that 630M. And 38% better that 7670M.

And the following videos ghost game plays on 630M and 7670M. Do I still assume that Ghost will not work on dual with A10 4600M?

FOR 630M

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKNfkJuhTZg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmAlGJZa9Jk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLIZ25kTTgQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LteHVDoSFtI

FOR 7670M ( the processors are i7)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSQ13kdqoQ4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bu9-eTXjzXE

and do you suggest me the option 10 then? I can go for this also. In around 10000PKR, I am getting 4Gm extra memory. and 250Gb HDD and plus ofcourse i5 with M series

first..game debate is not reliable..
that site roughly compare based on number, not deep technology and real benchmark..

second..
able to play..
well, smooth and able is different..
if you say that you can play a game with 15fps or less, so yes, it's able..

decent and smooth to play is if you can get more than 30fps in a game..

well, i remember that i try to play crysis on gma950 back then..:D, youtube say "gma 950 is able to play crysis", well, yes, it can display the picture, but for only 1-3 fps :D. after many softmode and tweak here and there, 5-6 fps..:D

back to the topic..
get the better graphic..
A10 is not bad cpu for gaming..
and Radeon HD 7660G + 7670M is the best graphic card in your list..
and this combo will far more powerfull in gaming than option 10..

Thanks. And one last thing. Please have a look at this image
MRPdJYp.png
.
At the minimal settings GeForce 630M has 42 fps with 3720QM and Radeon HD 7660G has 37 fps with A10-4600M, Samsung SSD 830 (the values are also from http://www.notebookcheck.net/Call-of-Duty-Ghosts-Benchmarked.105693.0.html)

Now The dual is certainly powerful as it i son the top. So I will definitely have a good fps at low settings. If I compare 7660M A10-4600M, Samsung SSD 830 with mine, does the SSD make any difference? Otherwise I am safe enough as processor and RAM are same and GPU is better. Only SSD difference. Will it make any difference? Thanks

well..1024x768 very low setting..it's gets smooth frames rate..:D
but not for that laptop native resolution..;)

does the SSD make any difference? = > no, ssd does not affect frame rate.. this parts only affect the speed to load application..which is much faster than traditional harddrive..

better make sure that you can do the upgrades thoes branded [hp dell acer ect..] may have a locked bios and will not allow you to change certin parts.. you may want to look and see if people with your rig you like have been able to do so.
i'm not a laptop guy but my buddy a few years back said that he now goes with a barebones and just adds the parts he wants and then he knows that he can do changes down the road [open bios]

HI again.

When I finally nade up my mind for A10, I came across the term [strike]sluttering[/strike] stuttering. There is a heavy chance that tere is [strike]sluttering[/strike] stuttering on cross fired dual? If this is the case should I still go for it. I am just disappointed by this.. Does new drivers resolve this issue?
