PC audio audible to friends despite muted mic

when I use my headset, youtube videos, music, notifications etc can be heard by my friends despite me muting my mic. this can't be audio escaping my headset into the mic and I cannot find a solution. I am using a wired turtle beach headset with an inline amplifier plugged into the mic input and usb. using windows 10

I figured it out, my speakers were plugged in to an input my headset didn't require. I assumed because I had my speakers disabled in my sound settings it would be fine but it turns out it caused an issue.
