PC speaker help

I'm trying to figure out why i'm not getting any sound out of my PC speakers. They are registering but when i try and test them the green bar by the sound goes like something is playing but no sound comes out. I've tried other ports as well and installed new drivers. They work normally if they are connected to an ipod or something. I'm using an M5A99FX mobo and normal speakers that just plug once in the back from the green audio port.

First check that the speakers are set as the default and close whatever media player you're using to test (occasionally they will persist playing through the last audio device). If you have a different speaker or some headphones try plugging those in to verify that the port is working properly.

i tried all that and even got another pair to test it out with and still no sound
