i just built a pc and i wonder if i can connect it to a tv using hdmi instantly without needing a monitor

Yup. Often people use a computer with a TV as a monitor; it's called an HTPC (Home Theater PC).

There's no difference between a TV and monitor other than speakers and a tuner.
