Hi,

I bought a super-cheap ThinkPad T400 (type 2765) and I'm thinking about upgrade possibilities, namely CPU.

Would it be possible to change the motherboard to the one that is compatible with Core i5 or Core i7?

I am fairly new with these things, don't know if every single laptop has unique motherboard of it is perhaps possible to mess around a bit...

Solution
Nope, you cannot switch the motherboard with some that supports a Core i3/i5/i7 CPU. Laptop motherboards are not like desktop motherboards; there is no standard size. Each laptop model has it's own custom motherboard to fit the chassis.

The only things you can do are:

#1 - Upgrade the RAM; 8GB Max (DDR3 PC3-8500 1066MHz)
#2 - Replace the hard drive with a SSD that has a SATA interface.
