Plasma (Without ARC) + Sony Home Theatre (HDMI ARC)

Hello,

I am looking forward to Buy Sony Home theater DZ340 because I liked its sound quality very much in its price range.. also I am thinking to get one plasma TV(Brand .model not decided yet) to see HD Videos + PS3 Gaming.. reason for plasma - low price. Now the problem is that DZ340 has ARC enabled with only HDMI.. and most of the plasma TV (older models & of cheap price) does not have ARC... and I learnt that to get surround sound quality from TV/Setup box (for HD channels).. ARC is needed. Is that true ? is it not possible to get surround sound quality in DZ340 from Plasma TV(without ARC)/setup box ?

The Sony HTiB has an optical audio output that should serve to bring audio from the TV to it.
