Playback tape head does not respond high frequencies

When one playback tape head does not respond frequencies above 5 or 6 KHz, in spite of azimuth adjustment have yet been done and also demagnetizing, its mandatory to replace it? There is no other way to handle it? AKAI GX-220D

Does the head looks worn? That used to be a common cause for bad frequency response.

The head is covered with crystal glass. It's difficult to say. Apperently seems fine.
