So i live in Europe (Lithuania) and decided to buy a new laptop, mostly for gaming.

The Acer Aspire 5750G i5-2430M 3.0Ghz/15.6" HD (1366x768) LED/2GB NVIDIA GT540M /8GB DDR3-1333/500GB 5400rpm/DVD+/-RW/WiFi N/RJ45 Lan/DOS/3xUSB 2.0/VGA/HDMI/Card Reader/Camera /6cell/2.6kg/ It cost about 716 USD.

And the other is DELL Studio XPS 15 (L502x) i5-2430M 3.0Ghz/15.6" HD (1366x768) LED/2GB NVIDIA GT540M /8GB DDR3-1333/500GB 7200rpm/DVD+/-RW/WiFi N/RJ45 Lan/DOS/1x USB 2.0 / 2x USB 3.0/1xE-SATA/HDMI/Display Port/Express card/Card Reader/Camera/6cell/2.6kg/ It cost about 1018 USD.

It seems that they are pretty similar but the prices are verry different. Maybe acer has bad quality? The dell comes with 3year varranty and acer only with 2year.

Wich one would you buy?

Plz help me decide !!!!

well, acer is a top brand that one is cheaper cause of the following things:

1.HDD speed is 5400rpm slow for transfering a big size of files.
2.it does not have usb 3.0 which are now latest.
3.does not have Esata.
4.does not have express card

while dell has all of those things.

@xtreme5

Acer is not a top brand. Top brands are ASUS, Lenovo, Clevo/Sager. Acer and Dell are average. So the price difference is because of the features available.

@Noodletoe

While anything lower than a GTX460m from Nvidia and 5850m from AMD is considered not a gaming class laptop GPU in recent generation. It does not however means that a fast multimedia class GPU cannot play games, especially the native screen res of most laptop is low (1366x768).

@Ignacas

If you are going to buy a laptop with 6850m, the price will be significantly higher. It is a lot faster than the GT540m. The two GPU (6850m and GT540m) is in total different league, regardless of the VRAM size.

LOL, HP is a top brand. Where have you been?

Ok, Sony VAIO is ok. They were amazing years ago when nobody makes small laptop. But look at their price tag and look at what other company has on offer. It is hard to make a recommendation to get one of them.

Dell? Didn't anyone make a Dell joke in front of you before:

Oh man, my puter is broken!

It's a Dell.

Acer likewise is on the higher end in failure rate.

p.s. To PO: Although HP, DELL and Acer is not the best, they are still decent company. The truly bad companies were eliminated by competition already. So don't be too paranoid. Remember that every company will have failed product, there is always a risk of hardware failure regardless of which laptop you choose.

Usually I would go for Lenovo or ASUS. But for your price range, just go for best bang for your buck.

It turns out the Acer has USB 3.0.

If the Acer has USB 3.0 does, it is not a bad idea to get it. After all, it is the most important feature. The rest like esata, expresscard and 7200rpm drive, you can live without it. Just check to make sure the Acer really has USB 3.0 before buying (check that one of the USB port is blue or is marked with "ss"" for super speed).
