Please help me identify this internal laptop component

Hi, I've just opened my Toshiba L55W-C5259 to replace the M.2 SSD, when I noticed this empty space that looks like some kind of HDD slot?

Can someone please tell me what this is, and how I can get a 2.5 SSD in there if it IS a drive slot? Google yields no answers. Thanks so much.

maybe it is a HDD Sata slot or CDRW slot hard to tell but definitely not an M2 slot.
according to Toshiba specification only one M2 slot on this laptop and no mention of additional HDD sata drive slot available so I don't know what that is to be honest

SOOO I just learned that other models of this laptop have a HDD installed in that exact kind of slot. So that's what it must be. But mine has no enclosure or any way to connect a drive to it. Pretty stupid...

Hi, you don't have the connector on the motherboard and the flat cable to connect the hard drive anyway.

Yea it does look like a space for an HDD. You could probably get a cable and the shell to mount one there off a used system, but I don't see where the cable would connect on the motherboard. It might be on the other side, which may make it more trouble than it is worth. They also might not have placed one on this motherboard. Hard to say.

It maybe even just be missing the interposer which wouldn't be uncommon. But the pic doesn't show if there is even the connection to the mobo so can't say.

The motherboard is missing the connector for the hard disk, here is the location of this connector.

The sata connector is on the left but you can't see the mobo to see the connection or lack thereof. Just because there is an empty hdd slot doesn't mean a connection is or isn't there.
