Potential security issues when browsing the web

I have been using the internet for years and I know what sights are dangerous and safe. but what is happening now is when I got to a sight that I know is safe for example ebay it will take me to a totally different sight. and I didn't type in the url wrong chrome has it saved as it should be. the sight that it usually takes me to is this weird popup sight and it says I have viruses on my PC and it wont even let me click out of the tab sometimes. when I finally can exit out I go to the same ebay url and it takes me to ebay. one more thing is that i'm finding extensions that I never enabled to just appear on chrome. I'm really confused on why this is happening I always thought you had to type in a unknown url for this too happen but like I said it was the ebay.com url which chrome has saved and has always worked when I press e it takes me to ebay but not this time.
